4 Ways To Move Forward When You're Stuck

We've all been there... Whether it be a little creative funk or something larger like a massive life change, our brain can just freeze. Not only that, but it stays frozen and suddenly, you're stuck in a funk. I've been there too many times to count myself! The good news is, you don't have to stay there. Here are four things to remember and take action on for when you find yourself needing to get "unstuck."

1) What can you do right now?

This has been a lifesaver for me. This is important to ask especially when you have ten million things going on so you're feeling overwhelmed. When this happens, ask yourself, "What can I do right now, this very second?" Even if it has nothing to do with what you're working on, just do it. It's about forward-motion. As long as you're doing, and creating, you're moving forward. The momentum will get you back to where you need to be.

2) Let go of the past

The past is the past. Appreciate it and honor it. But thinking about it too much can result in getting stuck. This absolutely does not mean to ignore it. If that past is painful, embrace it and go through the emotions so that you can move on. But don't dwell for too long. Recognize when it's time to pick yourself up and look to the future. I promise you, after one chapter ends comes a more beautiful one. Cherish the now and look forward to the future.

3) Go do something you love!

Another incredible way to get out of a rut is to leave the situation and go do something! This could mean going for a walk, going for a day-trip, heck even a vacation! It could mean going to a movie or reading a book. It basically means to go take care of yourself. We don't do that enough!

4) Ask for help

This seems so basic but it's one of the hardest things you can do. Especially if you're of the mindset that you can do anything and solve anything on your own! While I'm sure that may even be true, asking for help can make solving your problem a lot quicker and a lot less painful. "Ask for help" is something that's been driven home to me by Jim and Michele McCarthy. It's brilliant. And while I still need a lot of growth here, I've come a long way. It's amazing how quickly the energy around your problem changes when you ask for help. It's a wonderful thing!
